YS Consults
February 18th, 2008
I have been doing consulting with churches and organizations on and off for a couple of years now. I have come to love consulting as much as anything else I do these days. In some ways, I think that consulting with churches and organizations might be my greatest contribution to the Kingdom. It isn’t easy work, but it is truly motivating and stretching.
I had my own firm for a while called, The Trek Project but when I began to re-culture Sonlife a few years ago, I set it aside in order to integrate much of what I was doing into the streams of influence at Sonlife.

I am thrilled to be on a new team of consultants that Youth Specialties has gathered. Honestly, I am honored and humbled to be on a team with such great people. You can see the team here: http://www.ysconsults.com/consultants/

Every name on that consultant list is tied to the emergent movement. McLauren has made it clear that at least his brand of emergent (which YouthFront and Sonlife are hosting in April) is nothing more than liberals who don’t believe in the divinity of Christ, the physical resurrection of Christ, Hell, authority of scripture, etc. Has there ever been a more distinct case of wolves in sheep’s clothing?

Let me be clear though, my opinions aside I’d like to see this “consulting” group labeled as Emergent, as it stands it feels very deceptive.

huff–
come on. you can’t be serious. everyone on the ys consultant list is emergent? how is that?
i am usually very gracious in my responses but your accusation is just ridiculous. do you even know these people? do you even know what emergent is?
also, the ys consulting thing isn’t deceptive in any way. it is what it appears to be– a mechanism to serve churches and church leaders. the ys consulting initiative has nothing to do with emergent. you might have issues with me and that is fine, but don’t lump those good people into your feelings about me.
btw - i am not emergent — i believe in the divinity of Christ, the physical resurrection of Christ, hell and the authority of scripture and a whole bunch of other theological truths — oh, and so do so many that you would classify emergent. your accusations are very hazardous.
thoughts?

Hey - Congrats Chris!
great news - it definitely fits your heart to care for and encourage the local church and its ministry to youth!

What’s the old saying? You’ve arrived when people attack you. If so, you’ve arrived!

wow..looks like huff’s underwear are on a little too tight.
I would not consider Jeanne Stevens an emergent leader. Her husband is on staff at North Point.
Anyways, Chris congrats! That really is a honor.

Hey pal -
I am so excited for you having the opportunity to encourage the “gang” in the local church that you care so deeply about.
Just a side question - I hang out with non-christians, does that make me a non-christian or emergent?

Sorry you had to receive that kind of comment. It is certainly not helpful.
Has the YS consulting been going on long? I wasn’t aware of it. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the new book.

tom-
the YS consult deal is new — last few months. they have been doing consulting and helping people out forever but as far as an official initiative, it is new.

I’d love to share some of what we’re working on in Northern VA in the context of this stuff. It may be a place YS can help more in the long run with what we’re doing though we’re going to try and do our part out this way…we are trying to fill a major need that I imagine exists in expensive urban settings like DC.
Glad you’re on board with the consult. It looks like an experienced group of people. Great group of stories coming together.
