Some of you know that Sonlife and YouthFront have been working collaboratively on some new projects (content, events, youth worker training, etc.) Anyway, I have been spending a lot of time in the YouthFront offices lately. One of the things I enjoy most about working amidst the YouthFront community is the daily rhythm of midday prayer.

Here is one of the prayers we have been praying together…
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
I have been deeply moved by this prayer of the church.
Chris, thanks for sharing this prayer with us. I want to take this rhythm (of midday prayer)back with me off of my sabbatical. I will be praying this prayer for the rest of the month. Thanks!
This is an awesome prayer and a really great thing to think about and meditate on. I appreciate this a lot. How are you?
i am well. are you back in full swing at school?
You’re going to love this!
There’s a church in Atlanta called Trinity Vineyard. They embody what you’re talking about on your website and in your ministry. The worship leader is extremely gifted and talented. He took prayers (this one and a few others), put them to music, and recorded a VERY good cd that is unlike any other that I have.
This prayer (the one you mentioned) is track 1 on the cd. The song is called “The Prayer of St. Francis.” The cd is called, “Prayers of the Saints” and it features prayers from St. Patrick, St. Augustine, and others. You can hear a 2 min. clip of each song at http://cdbaby.com/cd/trinityvine
I do not have any connection with these guys, I have a friend who attends the church and just really like the sound of this cd!
